Overview
The arcade game debuted in Japan on November 7, 2006. Most arcades set up four pods, though some larger amusement centers feature additional units. Players connect online for nationwide battles, choosing sides between opposing factions. Each player takes on the role of a mobile suit pilot from the anime, completing two combat scenarios within a ten-minute total playtime. Each pod includes a dome-shaped screen powered by a DLP projector. To play, pilots buy special cards at a dedicated terminal. After a match, a large monitor shows a replay of the previous battle, while an angled touch screen interface lets players manage their pilot data.
Overseas release
The Hong Kong launch occurred on 19 April 2008 at Rev. 1.01 in Causeway Bay's Wonder Park Plus. By spring 2009, cabinets were available in five more Hong Kong arcades and had been featured at the C3 HK exhibition. All Hong Kong machines run Rev. 1.01, allowing linked play between them, but the version difference prevents compatibility with Japanese arcades. The game was introduced to Taiwan on 28 July 2009 with eight pods in Chung-Li and eight in Taichung; additional 4POD sets were added in Taipei and Shin-Chu in November.
