Gameplay

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 is an action-oriented hack and slash game with some tactical elements, following the style of previous Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors titles. It introduces unique gameplay mechanics that distinguish it from the core Dynasty Warriors series, such as more ranged combat options, though melee remains the focus. Units are more mobile, using thrusters to dash, jump in mid-air, and for some, fly. The game draws its content from various Mobile Suit Gundam anime and manga series rather than the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. A new cel-shaded graphical style brings the visuals closer to the animated roots, and a streamlined HUD reduces screen clutter. The enemy AI has been revamped, allowing units to reinforce and support each other in combat. Original mode returns with teams including Amuro, Setsuna, Kou, and Kira. Mission Mode has been expanded into seven varieties: History missions reenact events from the original Gundam series and are available for Universal Century story arcs (excluding Char's Counterattack) and alternate universes (Wing, X, G, Turn A, Seed Destiny, and 00); Collection missions let players seek designs for categories of mobile suits; Memorial missions appear after milestones like shooting down 10,000 enemies and grant rare plans or pilot skills; Challenge missions are difficult tests; Friendship missions allow players to fight alongside specific groups such as women or mobile fighters; and Relation missions boost relationship ratings with other pilots.

Reception

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 received mixed reviews, with aggregated scores of 58/100 for the PlayStation 3 and 65/100 for the Xbox 360. IGN gave the PS3 version a scathing review, citing lack of content and repetitive gameplay. GamePro praised the cel-shaded graphics and intact Japanese audio but criticized the controls and repetitiveness. Eurogamer gave the game 8 out of 10, stating it was a good starting point for newcomers to the Musou genre.
