Saviors (album)

Green Day's fourteenth studio album, released in 2024.

Saviors is the fourteenth studio album from American rock band Green Day, released on January 19, 2024, under Reprise Records. Critics generally gave it positive reviews. The album was supported by five singles: "The American Dream Is Killing Me," "Look Ma, No Brains!," "Dilemma," "One Eyed Bastard," and "Bobby Sox." In support of the record, the band launched the Saviors Tour, an 87-date global concert series spanning six continents. The album also earned a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

The album’s background traces back to the sessions for the band’s previous record, Father of All Motherfuckers (2020), which was produced by Butch Walker and received mixed reviews. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Billie Joe Armstrong revealed that seven songs from those sessions didn’t make the cut. Later, it was confirmed that longtime collaborator Rob Cavallo would produce Saviors. Cavallo had worked with Green Day on most of their earlier albums, including Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004), but the two hadn’t teamed up since ¡Tré! (2012)—a gap of nearly a decade by 2022.

In February 2021, a year after the previous album’s release, the band debuted "Here Comes the Shock," a Butch Walker-produced track tied to their two-year deal with the NHL. That May, they released the self-produced standalone song "Pollyanna" to celebrate the Hella Mega Tour, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another Walker-produced track, "Holy Toledo!," came out in November 2021 and appeared on the soundtrack for the film Mark, Mary & Some Other People.

Saviors was recorded in London, England, and Los Angeles, California. Early reports suggested the album would be titled 1972, referencing the birth year of all three band members. The band teased this on social media, with the first hint dating back to December 2021—more than two years before the album finally dropped under the name Saviors.

Before the album’s announcement, Green Day played the song "1981" live at the Festival d'été de Québec on July 16, 2023. They officially announced the album on October 24, 2023, and released its lead single, "The American Dream Is Killing Me," along with a music video.
