Bennett

The unlucky adventurer from Mondstadt who never gives up hope.

Bennett is an adventurer from Mondstadt in the video game Genshin Impact, developed by miHoYo. One of the first playable characters released in September 2020, he is renowned for his notoriously bad luck yet maintains a kind and optimistic personality. Visually, he features messy light-blond hair, green eyes, and a signature bandage on his nose, dressed in beige, brown, and red adventurer attire. While long shrouded in mystery regarding his origins, Version 5.8 revealed that Bennett is actually a native of Natlan. He was found as an infant by an elderly adventurer after the death of his biological parents, members of the Flintblades team, who perished fighting Abyss monsters. Voiced by Cristina Vee in English and Ryōta Ōsaka in Japanese, he is celebrated for his ability to help players in combat while serving as a support character.

Lore & Background

Bennett's biological parents were members of the Flintblades adventuring team who died protecting him during an attack by Abyss monsters. Found near death, he was rescued by an elderly adventurer who carried him to safety before succumbing to injuries himself. Two older adventurers from Mondstadt's Adventurer's Guild then adopted him. Despite a life filled with misfortune—such as scaring off teammates for his 'Benny's Adventure Team' and suffering grave injuries that were only healed by his Vision—he never complains.

His birthday is February 29, celebrated on the 28th by his foster parents to avoid disappointment. In Version 5.8, a story quest titled 'Sunspray Summer Resort' revealed he is from Natlan; his bad luck stemmed from being severed from Natlan's Ley Lines as an infant. The narrative featured his reunion with the spirits of his birth parents, who called him their 'lucky star,' and confirmed that the Mare Jivari was mimicked by the Abyss.

Reader's Guide

Bennett is a four-star Pyro damage dealer who uses a sword but functions primarily as a support. Upon casting his Elemental Burst, he summons a field that provides an attack boost and heals characters within it. After unlocking his sixth Constellation, the field grants a Pyro damage bonus to characters wielding swords, claymores, or polearms and infuses their weapons with Pyro. Voice actor Ryōta Ōsaka described Bennett as mischievous with poor luck but noted he acts out of confidence rather than caution.

Korean voice actress Song Ha-rim initially worried the character sample portrayed arrogance, but later understood his delicate side; she emotionally broke down crying while recording a line where Bennett tells his mother he loves her in Version 5.8. Critics praise him for his kind personality and combat utility, with players noting that despite being a magnet for disaster, characters like Barbara and senior guild members genuinely care for him.
