Nahida is the youngest among the seven Archons, succeeding the previous Dendro Archon, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. Though nominally Sumeru's ruler, she was long secluded in the Sanctuary of Surasthana and sidelined by the Akademiya, Sumeru's governing body. The sages, who prided themselves on wisdom, confined her and forced her to maintain the Akasha system, a dream-based knowledge network. Despite this, she secretly helped Sumeru's people within her limited power. Five hundred years later, the sages collaborated with the Fatui Harbinger Il Dottore to replace her with the Wanderer (Scaramouche) as a new god, harvesting dreams via the Akasha to trap citizens in an endless samsara.

Nahida's significance lies in her role as a central figure in Genshin Impact's Sumeru arc. Her story explores themes of isolation, wisdom, and redemption: she overcomes the Akademiya's distrust, rescues herself with the Traveler's help, defeats the deified Scaramouche, and ultimately learns the truth of her origin—that she was created from a purified branch of Irminsul by Rukkhadevata to erase the corruption of forbidden knowledge.
