Arlecchino (Genshin Impact)
Fourth Fatui Harbinger and head of the House of the Hearth.
Arlecchino, whose codename is The Knave, is a character from miHoYo’s *Genshin Impact*. She belongs to the Fatui, the diplomatic body of the fictional nation of Snezhnaya, and occupies the fourth seat among the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. She also runs the House of the Hearth, an orphanage that doubles as an intelligence network, where the children call her “Father.” The character debuted as a non-playable figure in version 4.1 of the game in 2023 and became playable in 2024.
Her real name is Peruere. An orphan taken in by Crucabena, the previous Knave, who ruled the House of the Hearth with brutality and forced a deadly battle royale to choose a successor. Peruere and her friend Clervie tried to resist but failed. At sixteen, Clervie chose to die at Peruere’s hands rather than fight or flee. Later, hardened by loss, Peruere killed Crucabena. She then entered the service of the Tsaritsa as the new Knave, receiving the name Arlecchino. Taking over the House of the Hearth, she rejected the title “Mother” used by her predecessor and instead called herself “Father.” Under her leadership, the children gained trust, respect, and the freedom to choose their own futures.
Arlecchino is portrayed as an anti-hero—cold and ruthless, yet fiercely protective of the children in her care. She sympathizes with the death of her colleague La Signora and despises the Harbinger Il Dottore for his human experiments, wishing she could kill him. Despite her standing among the children, other Harbingers like Tartaglia and the Wanderer consider her crazy or insane. Children adopted into the House of the Hearth take new surnames: males become “Snezhnevich” and females “Snezhevna,” meaning “son or daughter of snow.”
In combat, Arlecchino is a five-star Pyro user who wields a long-handled scythe. Her abilities rely on a Bond of Life mechanic, which blocks healing in exchange for increased attack damage. Her Elemental Burst can remove this bond and restore health. She also appears as a boss fight.
Arlecchino’s name comes from the Italian commedia dell’arte character harlequin. Her birth name, Peruere, means “to burn away” in Latin. In Japanese, she is voiced by Nanako Mori, who aimed for a “cooler than a man” tone to match the developers’ vision.

Lore & Background
Arlecchino's real name is Peruere. An orphan taken in by the previous bearer of the 'Knave' codename, Crucabena. Crucabena ruled the House of the Hearth with cruelty, seeking to determine her successor through a deadly battle royale. Peruere and her friend Clervie resisted her tyranny but repeatedly failed. At sixteen, unable to fight or escape, Clervie chose to die at Peruere's hands. Later, Peruere, hardened by suffering, finally killed Crucabena. She then entered the service of the Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya as the new Knave, and was bestowed the name 'Arlecchino'.
Reader's Guide
Arlecchino is portrayed as an anti-hero, embodying both righteous and villainous traits. Although cold and ruthless, she cares deeply for the children of the House of the Hearth, serving as their steadfast protector and 'Father'. She is known to sympathize with the death of her colleague 'La Signora', and despises and distrusts her fellow Fatui Harbinger 'Il Dottore' for his obsession with human experimentation. Her reputation among fellow Fatui Harbingers is poor, with Tartaglia and the Wanderer calling her crazy and insane. Before her release as a playable character, Arlecchino had become a fan favorite for her charisma and complexity, and she was praised by critics for her visual design and characterization. Position Within the Fatui Hierarchy
Arlecchino, operating under the alias Sandrone, occupies the rank of Harbinger within the Fatui, the cadre of exceptionally powerful individuals entrusted with enforcing the Tsaritsa's will across Snezhnaya. The Fatui were established after Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya ascended to the throne of Cryo Archon, succeeding the Belyi Tsar who had originally founded the nation as an imperial aristocracy roughly two thousand years before the game's present timeline. Under the Tsaritsa's directive, the Harbingers received a remarkable degree of personal autonomy, specifically the freedom to pursue the meaning of their own existence. This dual mandate placed Sandrone at the crossroads of absolute imperial obedience and individual philosophical inquiry, making the Harbinger role simultaneously a sword of state power and a vessel for personal purpose within the rigid political architecture of the northern nation.
The Gnose Collection Mandate
Shortly before the game's central events, the Tsaritsa issued a sweeping directive for the Fatui to secure the Gnoses, potent artifacts each bound to one of Teyvat's seven elemental Archons. This continent-spanning operation placed the Harbingers, Sandrone included, at the heart of an imperial campaign with consequences that rippled far beyond Snezhnaya's borders. The very pursuit of these objects became the narrative thread that drew the Traveler into the northern nation, intertwining the protagonist's journey with the Fatui's ambitions. The Gnose campaign also intersected with Project Stuzha, a nationwide policy designed to curtail energy consumption so that freed resources could be redirected toward research. Together, these overlapping initiatives painted a portrait of a regime consolidating both material power and strategic knowledge under the direction of its Harbingers, with Sandrone serving as one of the principal enforcers of that imperial agenda.
The Encounter in Snezhnograd
The Traveler's arrival in Snezhnograd, the capital nestled within the Everfrozen Earth region and functioning as the operational nerve center for both the Tsaritsa and the Fatui, brought a direct confrontation with two Harbingers: Sandrone and Tartaglia. This meeting, unfolding against the backdrop of Project Stuzha, marked a turning point in the protagonist's passage through the northern nation. Snezhnograd itself presents a striking visual contrast, pairing European-style architecture with fairytale-creature inhabitants such as beastmen and fae folk, a setting steeped in Slavic folklore and accompanied by classical symphonic music. The face-to-face encounter with Sandrone and Tartaglia served as the Traveler's window into the Fatui's energy research agenda and ultimately led to involvement with the Rokot, a clandestine collective working to oppose the project from within.
Diplomatic Fallout and the Harbingers' Reputation
The deeds carried out by the Fatui Harbingers, including those of Tartaglia and Scaramouche, generated substantial diplomatic friction for Snezhnaya on the broader Teyvat stage. These actions instilled deep wariness in the Traveler toward the organization and, more broadly, soured the northern nation's relations with both Liyue and Inazuma. Sandrone, operating under the Tsaritsa's mandate to gather the Gnoses while pursuing personal existential meaning, was woven into this pattern of aggressive imperial reach. The Fatui had been a presence in the game's world since its 2020 launch, long before Snezhnaya itself became playable in version 7.0 on August 12, 2026, meaning the organization's fearsome reputation had been accumulating across the entire narrative. The combination of their autonomous mandate and their role as the Tsaritsa's enforcers made the Harbingers both politically consequential and widely dreaded figures throughout Teyvat.
