Third Seldon Crisis Emerges

The third Seldon Crisis centers on the Republic of Korell, the first nation the Foundation encounters that has an effective nuclear technology of its own. After Master Trader Hober Mallow is elected Mayor of Terminus, Korell goes to war with the Foundation; Mallow imposes an embargo, and Korell eventually collapses because of its dependence on Foundation technology.

Three Foundation vessels had vanished near the Republic of Korell, and Mallow, sent to investigate, discovered that the Empire had been providing weapons to client states on the Foundation's borders. Mallow concluded that religious power had outlived its usefulness and that further expansion would rest on trade alone.
