Gameworlds

Football Manager Live featured twelve Gameworlds. In 2010, the system underwent a major change, splitting into two categories: Fantasy Players and Returning Stars. In Fantasy Players worlds, real-life players aged, retired, and were replaced by generated regens, while Returning Stars worlds periodically reset to the current day. The first Gameworld, Cantona, launched on 4 November 2008, followed by eight more before the inaugural Pro-Gameworld, Toms, debuted on 12 January 2009. For the first time, existing users could transfer their earned skills to this new Pro-Gameworld, a previously impossible move that many embraced. All Gameworlds were named after former real-life players. The 3D match engine, first introduced in Football Manager 2009, was added to the game in June 2010.

Game restructuring

On 26 November 2009, Sports Interactive announced vast changes, including resetting all current game worlds to their initial states starting 1 March 2010. This caused controversy as many managers were upset by losing all progress. Sports Interactive offered all current subscribers two months of free play time, which met with relatively negative reactions. On 18 December 2009, the company extended the free time until the reset. Following outcry over lost skills, they announced a new skills system after the reset allowing managers to use existing skill points, which was met with great appreciation. At the same time, version 1.4 was announced to include youth academies and many extras subscribers had requested.
