Gameplay

The player controls an adventurer who forms a party to explore dungeons, collect treasure, and fight monsters in turn-based combat from a first-person perspective on a grid map. Characters improve by learning skills and equipping items. Five main classes—fighters, magic users, scouts, maids, and spielers—branch into over 30 subclasses with unique skills and outfits as characters specialize; for example, a fighter may become a paladin or valkyrie, while a magic user can become an enchantress or witch.

Development

Aquaplus released the original PlayStation Portable game in March 2013 as part of the To Heart and To Heart 2 media line. Atlus handled the western localization, which includes Japanese voices with English subtitles and is compatible with PlayStation TV. To achieve a Mature ESRB rating for Western audiences, Atlus censored four CG images deemed overtly sexual.

Reception

Dungeon Travelers 2 holds a score of 76 on Metacritic. PlayStation Nation rated it 8/10, calling it an accommodating introduction to the dungeon crawler genre. Gaming Age gave it a B+, noting that while some may reject its sexual content, the challenge and RPG mechanics are well detailed and enjoyable. Gamecritics.com found the overall storyline uninteresting but praised the character dialogue and artwork. PlayStation Lifestyle rated it 7.5/10, lauding character upgrade variety while finding the story lackluster. Capsule Computers and BioGamer Girl each gave 8/10, describing it as a satisfying dungeon crawler with solid mechanics. In Japan, the PSP version sold 32,000 copies at launch and 39,000 after two weeks; the PS Vita version sold 16,000 in its launch week and 20,000 after two weeks.
