Background
After a crew in three modified Honda Civics hijacks a truck of electronics at the Los Angeles port, LAPD officer Brian O'Conner is sent undercover by a joint LAPD-FBI task force to find them. He works his way into the circle of street racer Dominic "Dom" Toretto through Toretto's Market & Cafe, run by Dom's sister Mia, and a job at Harry's garage, despite the suspicion of Dom's friend Vince. Brian loses a race to Dom in his modified Mitsubishi Eclipse, then rescues him from the police, straying into the territory of rival racer Johnny Tran, whose crew destroys the Eclipse; Dom tells him he still owes him a ten-second car. As Brian investigates, he develops a complex friendship with Dom.
