Background

Having helped Dominic Toretto escape in Los Angeles, ex-LAPD officer Brian is hiding in Miami, making a living street racing his 1999 Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R in events run by his friend, the mechanic Tej Parker. After he is arrested, FBI agent Bilkins and Customs agent Markham offer to clear his record if he goes undercover against the drug lord Carter Verone. Brian insists on choosing his partner, his estranged childhood friend and ex-con Roman Pearce, who at first distrusts him for being a cop. Working with undercover Customs agent Monica Fuentes, the pair beat six other drivers in a test to retrieve a package from Verone's car in an impound lot and are hired to carry his "dirty money". Principal photography ran from September to December 2002 in South Florida.
