Onigiri (video game)

An MMORPG set in ancient Japan where players are oni.

Onigiri is an action massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by CyberStep. Set in a fantasy version of ancient Japan where humans and yōkai coexist, the game was originally released in Japan in February 2014 and later in North America. Its title means 'oni cutter,' referencing the player character's background as an oni, and also puns on the Japanese rice ball onigiri.

Reception

Angelique Stokes praised the combat and said the game was bursting with personality. Sheattack's Charnelle Schindel found the plot lackluster but overall great fun to play. Crunchyroll described it as a very solid title. However, many players criticized monotony after a certain level; the developers added high-level content, event items, and collaborations. As of January 2018, the English PC server raised the level cap to 135, with no players having reached it.
