Camelot Unchained
A spiritual successor to Dark Age of Camelot focused on realm warfare.
Camelot Unchained is an upcoming fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by City State Entertainment and partially funded through Kickstarter. It is led by Mark Jacobs, former designer of Dark Age of Camelot, and raised a total of $17 million through crowdfunding, personal investment, and additional investors. The game uses a proprietary engine designed for server-side physics and large-scale battles, focusing on open world PvP rather than instanced content.

Plot
The game takes place after an apocalyptic event called the First Breaking of the World. Eons ago, the Veil—the border between the world and a magical realm Beyond—was pierced, allowing Dragons to enter. The Veil's violent reactions caused Veilstorms that reshaped the earth, creating abominations and new races from humanity. Three brothers—Arthur, Sigurd, and Nuada—each took a sword and founded a Realm from the remaining habitable land. They built Camelot, the One True City of peace, but it later fell, and the land broke apart, leaving three islands of civilization lost in the Stormlands.
Development
In December 2012, Mark Jacobs and City State Entertainment released a teaser hinting at a three-faction PvP game, later confirming a Realm versus Realm design similar to Dark Age of Camelot. A Kickstarter campaign launched on April 2, 2013, and concluded on May 2 with $2,232,933 from 14,873 backers. After the Kickstarter, CSE continued to receive backer funds for stretch goals. Alpha 1 began on March 3, 2015. Beta 1 was originally scheduled for July 2015 but was delayed three years after serious flaws in the ability system were discovered in early 2016, requiring a complete rebuild. Beta 1 launched on July 31, 2018. On June 2, 2026, over thirteen years after the Kickstarter, the game entered early access. Camelot Unchained is developed alongside CUBE (Camelot Unchained Building Environment), a block-placing building system using the same graphics and UI, with a fully functioning physics system available as a player option. CUBE is open to all backers 24/7 even during early testing phases.
