The Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, or Book of the Dead, is the grimoire at the centre of the Evil Dead franchise. The Evil Dead (1981) introduced it as the Naturom Demonto, a Sumerian book found with an archaeologist's tape recorder in a cabin cellar; the sequels call it the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.

Reading its passages aloud wakes the Kandarian Demon and possesses the living. In Army of Darkness the Wise Man tells Ash the book is his only way home, and Ash must pick the real one from three. In Ash vs Evil Dead Ash sets the evil loose again by reading from it, and Ruby is revealed as its original author. Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise use the Naturom Demonto name again.
