Eurovision Song Contest 1968
Massiel's "La La La" gives Spain its first win, at the Royal Albert Hall.
The 1968 contest, the 13th edition, took place on 6 April 1968 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with Katie Boyle presenting. The BBC hosted after Sandie Shaw's "Puppet on a String" won for the United Kingdom the year before. It was the first Eurovision broadcast in colour, and seventeen countries took part - the same line-up as in 1967. Spain won with "La La La", sung by Massiel and written by Manuel de la Calva and Ramon Arcusa; it was Spain's first victory and its first top-five finish.
