Plot
The Eds—Ed, Edd and Eddy—flee their devastated cul-de-sac after their latest money-making scheme backfires and severely injures their neighbors Jonny, Kevin, Nazz and Rolf, who plot to retaliate violently. Eddy recommends seeking protection from his unnamed elder brother, though he does not know where his brother lives. Edd tries to piece together Eddy's inconsistent facts to determine a location. Jonny takes his wooden board Plank on a city bus, Rolf rides his pig Wilfred, and Nazz joins Kevin on his bicycle to find the Eds. Jimmy and Sarah, uninvolved in the scheme, have a picnic while watching the retaliation. The Kanker Sisters learn of the other children's intent and set out to save the Eds. The Eds wander aimlessly under Eddy's direction. In a cow pasture, Edd profiles Eddy's brother and reasons he would be at a place involving pranks. Ed suggests the Lemon Brook Gag Factory, but it is out of business. Wilfred attacks Rolf and abandons him. Eddy claims his brother was a whaler, so Edd deduces he lives by the sea. They build a boat and ride it over a river, which ends in a swamp where the boat is destroyed. Ed and Eddy prank Edd into believing they sank in quicksand. Enraged, Edd berates Eddy and decides to return home. Eddy breaks down crying and accepts responsibility, prompting Edd to forgive him as the Eds continue.

Development and release
While Ed, Edd n Eddy was in its fifth season, Cartoon Network confirmed a sixth season on March 1, 2006. The network allowed Antonucci and a.k.a. Cartoon to work on a film for the series, which would serve as the finale. Antonucci shortened the sixth season to focus on the movie. Two sixth-season episode segments—"May I Have This Ed" and "Look Before You Ed"—premiered on June 29, 2008. Antonucci hinted the film would reveal what is under Edd's hat, though this never occurred. Before the premiere, Antonucci mentioned it would show Eddy's brother for the first time. Terry Klassen voiced the brother and served as voice director. Antonucci directed and co-wrote the film with Jono Howard, Mike Kubat, Rachel Connor and Stacy Warnick. Daniel Sioil and Ruth Vincent were producers, Ken Cathro was editor, and storyboard artists included Scott Underwood, Steve Garcia, Raven Molisee, Joel Dickie and Jim Miller. Yeson Entertainment handled animation, Voicebox Productions Inc. handled voice production. Patric Caird composed the score. On December 1, 2008, Antonucci stated production was wrapping up after two years, and the film would air the following year. He mentioned it would be in widescreen format and the title characters would run away from the cul-de-sac. The film premiered on November 8, 2009, running 89 minutes. The premiere earned double and triple-digit ratings and delivery gains among all kid demographics.
Reception
Critics praised Big Picture Show as a strong conclusion to the series. Charlie-Robinson Poortvliet of MovieAddictz.com gave it an 8.2/10 rating, calling it a superior double episode grand finale and praising its plot, voice acting and direction. Azhan Ali of Animated Times ranked it third on a list of most emotional endings of cartoons, calling the final scene heartwarming because the Eds are no longer social outcasts. Collider reviewer Austin Allison named it fourth best among top 11 TV cartoon movies, deeming it surprisingly cathartic for giving the Eds a sense of belonging. In November 2019, Hayden Adams from UWIRE placed it atop a list of best kids' TV show endings, stating it stuck with him for its impact and brilliant ending. John Carter Jr. of the same publication awarded it a 10 out of 10 rating, calling it a perfect end for the series due to its finality and how it finished long-running gags, mysteries and character relationships. He called it a perfect homage to a show about imperfect people. In June 2021, Comic Book Resources contributor Noah Dominguez called the movie's absence from HBO Max the most glaring omission among Ed, Edd n Eddy episodes, as it was the true series finale that completed character arcs.
