Plank is a piece of wood with two eyes and a mouth drawn on it, and Jonny's inseparable best friend. Only Jonny can "hear" him, so Plank talks through Jonny.
Danny Antonucci insisted Plank stay a plain piece of wood, brought to life only by Jonny's imagination.
Background
Jonny often blames Plank for the trouble they get into. When Jonny became the hero Captain Melonhead, Plank became his sidekick, Splinter the Wonderwood.
Plank won Best Performance by an Inanimate Object at Cartoon Network's 2002 Fancy Anvil Awards.
