Heighliner
The Spacing Guild's enormous carrier starships.
A heighliner is a type of starship used for interstellar travel in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, described as the major cargo carrier of the Spacing Guild's transportation system. Operating one requires a Guild Navigator, who uses a limited prescience made possible by the drug melange to guide the ship safely across space at translight speeds.
Lore & Background
The ships are vast: all the frigates and transports of House Atreides are said to occupy a single corner of a heighliner's cargo hold, and lighters ferry people and cargo between a heighliner and a planet's surface. The Prelude to Dune prequels establish that in later millennia heighliners are manufactured on Ix; in Dune: House Corrino one is space-folded into a cavern beneath the surface of Ix during the Atreides-led liberation of the planet.
