In 1901, they discovered another version of Harkness on a different timeline, who instructed them to cryofreeze him for 107 years to prevent a paradox. By 2006, Torchwood's existence was known only to the military and police, yet Prime Minister Harriet Jones secretly ordered UNIT to prepare Torchwood for the Sycorax arrival. On Christmas Day 2006, they used a Jathaa sunglider weapon shot down in 1996 to destroy a Sycorax ship. The following year, during "Army of Ghosts," Torchwood Tower in London became ground zero as the void ship breach widened, releasing ghosts that were actually Cybermen. Caught between Daleks and Cybermen, many workers were killed or upgraded; Hartman retained some identity while subverted. Jack Harkness later rebuilt Torchwood to be more secretive and less confrontational, honoring the Doctor.
