Diving at the 2012 Summer Olympics

Diving at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The diving events for the 2012 Summer Olympics were held from 29 July to 11 August at the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park. This sport was one of five aquatic competitions at the Games, the others being marathon swimming, swimming, synchronised swimming, and water polo. The program consisted of eight events: for both men and women, there were the 3m springboard, the synchronised 3m springboard, the 10m platform, and the synchronised 10m platform.

A total of 136 athletes from 25 countries took part. Every diver had to be at least 14 years old by 31 December 2012. China led the medal count with six gold medals and ten medals overall.

Qualification rules limited each nation to a maximum of 16 divers (eight men and eight women). In individual events, a country could enter up to two divers; in synchronised events, it could enter one pair. For individual events, spots were awarded to the top 12 finishers from the 2011 World Championships, the five continental champions in each event, and up to 18 semi-finalists from the 2012 Diving World Cup. For synchronised events, the top three pairs from the 2011 World Championships, the top four from the 2012 World Cup, and the host nation (Great Britain) qualified. Importantly, qualifying spots belonged to the nation, not the individual diver, though one diver could only earn one spot for their country.
