Nathan Summers was born to Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. As an infant, he was infected with a deadly techno-organic virus by the villain Apocalypse. To save his life, he was sent into a possible future timeline where his condition could be stabilized. Raised in a violent, unforgiving world, Nathan grew into the warrior Cable and became an enemy of Apocalypse. He later returned to the present-day era, initially arriving some years before his own birth. Cable reformed the New Mutants into the original X-Force and frequently battled the assassin Deadpool, who later became an on-again, off-again ally.
