Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 – Uprising

A stand-alone expansion with four mini-campaigns and Commander's Challenge mode.

In 2009, EA Los Angeles and Electronic Arts released a standalone expansion for Red Alert 3 called Uprising, available only for Windows via digital download. It adds roughly 30 new skirmish maps but removes all multiplayer options, including online and cooperative play. A separate version, Commander's Challenge, launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, offering only that mode and new units without the campaign or skirmish.

Campaigns

Uprising continues from where the Allied Campaign of the original game ended. Four mini-campaigns are available: one for each faction in Red Alert 3 and a bonus campaign centered on the origins of the Empire's commando Yuriko Omega. Each campaign is three missions long except the Soviet one, which has four. Initially only the Soviet and Yuriko campaigns are accessible; the Allied and Empire campaigns unlock after completing the first Soviet mission.

Plot

All three campaigns assume the Allied faction won at the end of Red Alert 3, with both the Soviet Union and Imperial Japan having surrendered. The Soviet campaign follows remaining Soviet resistance opposing FutureTech, an Allied defense contractor building a time-stopping super weapon called the Sigma Harmonizer, aided by European Union President Rupert Thornley, who intends to erase the Soviet Union from history. The Allied campaign focuses on defeating Imperial commanders still resisting occupation; Emperor Tatsu appears cooperative but reveals his true intentions after the fall of commander Takara.

The Empire's campaign covers fighting two Soviet generals whose conquest of parts of Japan is ignored by the Allied governor, until the Allies attack both sides in the final mission. The Yuriko campaign recounts Yuriko Omega's origins, her discovery by the Imperial military, her Allied captivity, and her fight to rescue her sister, playing as an action role-playing game with a locked camera on Yuriko.

Additional features

Uprising expands the live-action cast with returning actors Gemma Atkinson and Ivana Miličević, and new additions including Malcolm McDowell, Ric Flair, Jamie Chung, Holly Valance, and Julia Ling. The game introduces 11 new units, plus additional structures and specialized units exclusive to campaign and Commander's Challenge modes, such as the Chief Scientist and Ursa Major. Around 30 new skirmish maps are also added.

Commander's Challenge

Commander's Challenge is a mode where players face AI commanders of various skill levels across 50 successively tougher scenarios, loosely based on Generals' Challenge from Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour. It includes returning and new commanders, and features campaign-only units from Red Alert 3 like the Tesla Tank and Shogun Executioner. Certain maps have special effects such as raining garbage or shrunk units. Initially only basic units are available; completing missions unlocks more units from the opponent's tech tree. Some missions have unique conditions, such as Blood Feud where commanders Shinzo and Kenji fight each other until the player attacks. The player can choose a faction per mission. There are 13 main challenges and 37 side challenges. This mode was also released as a stand-alone downloadable game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
