Background
Born in Dallas and raised in Georgia, Blackmon played at Georgia Tech and was a second-round pick of the Rockies in 2008. He debuted in 2011 and took over center field in 2014 after Dexter Fowler was traded, making his first All-Star team that year. He won Silver Sluggers in 2016 and 2017; in 2017 he hit .331 and, homering off Hyun-Jin Ryu on September 29 for his 102nd RBI, passed Darin Erstad's record for runs batted in by a leadoff hitter. He signed a six-year, $108 million extension in April 2018, and in 2020 hit a walk-off grand slam against the Angels, matching Ryan Spilborghs' 2009 feat. He finished with a .293 average and 227 home runs in 1,624 games, second only to Todd Helton in many club totals, and in 2025 became a special assistant to general manager Bill Schmidt.
