RBD was a Mexican pop vocal group that emerged from the Televisa telenovela *Rebelde* (2004–2006). Its members were Anahí, Dulce María, Maite Perroni, Alfonso Herrera, Christopher von Uckermann, and Christian Chávez. Active from 2004 until their breakup in 2009, the group sold more than 15 million records globally, ranking among the best-selling Latin music artists ever.
The group formed earlier in 2004, with their debut performance on 30 September 2004, and the telenovela premiered on 4 October 2004. Their debut single, "Rebelde," was released on 30 August 2004. Their first studio album, *Rebelde*, was released on 30 November 2004 by EMI and produced four number-one singles in Mexico. In the US, it reached number 95 on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Latin Albums chart. A live CD/DVD, *Tour Generación RBD En Vivo*, documenting a 45-show tour across Mexico (not all sold-out), was released on 19 July 2005. In Spain, *Rebelde* spent five weeks at number one and earned 3× Platinum certification for over 240,000 copies sold.
Their second album, *Nuestro Amor*, was released on 22 September 2005. It sold 160,000 copies in its first week in Mexico. In the US, it topped the Latin Albums chart for three weeks and peaked at number 88 on the Billboard 200. Its four singles all reached number one in Mexico, and three charted on the US Hot Latin Songs chart. The album was certified 2× Platinum in Spain. In November 2005, a Portuguese version of their debut, *Rebelde (Edição Brasil)*, was released.
In early 2006, the group toured the US for the first time, releasing a CD/DVD of the tour, *Live in Hollywood*, in April. That same year, former singer Lynda Thomas, who had been an uncredited contributor since the start, became a recurring credited contributor; her first credited song was "No Pares," performed by Dulce María. In May 2006, a Portuguese version of *Nuestro Amor*, titled *Nosso Amor Rebelde*, was released for Brazil. It became their first album to reach the top 20 of the Billboard 200. *Nuestro Amor* earned RBD a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Pop Album by a Group or Duo in 2006.
Their third album, *Celestial*, came out in November 2006. It debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200, selling over 137,000 copies in its first week in the US. Its lead single, "Ser o Parecer," topped the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart for two consecutive weeks.
