Lore & Background
His reign began badly with a 5–0 defeat to Artmedia Bratislava in European qualifying and a 4–4 draw with Motherwell in his first league game. Celtic recovered to win the League Cup and clinch the 2005–06 title with six matches left, and in 2006–07 they reached the Champions League round of 16 for the first time since the competition was restructured in 1993, losing to Milan in extra time, while also winning the league and the Scottish Cup. A third straight title followed in 2007–08. In 2008–09 his side won the League Cup after extra time against Rangers but missed out on the league, and he resigned on 25 May 2009.
