European Cup Finalists (1970)

Celtic's second European Cup final, lost 2–1 to Feyenoord after extra time in Milan in 1970.

Celtic reached their second European Cup final in 1970, three years after winning it in Lisbon, and faced Feyenoord at the San Siro in Milan on 6 May 1970. Feyenoord won 2–1 after extra time with a 117th-minute goal from Ove Kindvall. It remains Celtic's most recent European Cup final.

Lore & Background

Celtic went in as strong favourites, and Tommy Gemmell scored first after 30 minutes, but Rinus Israël soon headed an equaliser. Feyenoord's coach Ernst Happel had Jimmy Johnstone double-marked throughout, and the Dutch midfield of Franz Hasil, Willem van Hanegem and Wim Jansen controlled the game. The final almost did not go ahead because of widespread strikes in Italy that year.
