Martin O'Neill Era Begins 2000
Martin O'Neill took over Celtic in June 2000 and won a treble in his first season.
Martin O'Neill, a European Cup winner as a Nottingham Forest player, became Celtic manager in June 2000. His first Old Firm game, in late August 2000, was a 6–2 win, Celtic's biggest over Rangers since the 1957 League Cup final.
Lore & Background
In that first season he won a domestic treble, the club's first since 1968–69, and Celtic retained the title in 2001–02 for the first time since 1982. Over five seasons O'Neill won three league titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup, and oversaw a record seven Old Firm wins in a row. He resigned in May 2005 to care for his wife, his last game being a 1–0 Scottish Cup final win over Dundee United.
