History

Bobino was created in 1957 when Guy Sanche began hosting and presenting animated shorts. The show was initially unscripted, and Sanche invented imaginary characters such as Camério, the personification of the camera, and Gustave, a ghost created when a stage operator dropped keys during live filming. In 1959, Michel Cailloux joined to write scenarios, introducing new characters including Bobinette and Giovanni in 1980. Paule Bayard voiced and handled Bobinette until she became gravely ill in 1973; Christine Lamer took over the role at the end of the 1972–1973 season. Radio-Canada ended the show in 1985 amid protests, as Sanche's health was deteriorating. Sanche died of cancer three years later.

Format

The show focused on interactions between Bobino and Bobinette, who either devised pranks on her brother or got into trouble from which Bobino rescued her, often imparting a lesson. Live action segments were divided into three acts separated by two animated shorts, including episodes of Paddington, the original French version of The Magic Roundabout, and serializations of Les aventures de Tintin.
