Bobby Trivigno

Playing career

Trivigno played prep school hockey at Shattuck-Saint Mary's, a noted hockey powerhouse, where he finished first, third, and second in team scoring over his three seasons. After graduating in 2017, he joined the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, the top junior league in the United States. He placed fourth in team scoring and helped Waterloo finish second in the west, advancing to the league semifinals. With one year of junior eligibility remaining, Trivigno signed with the Massachusetts Minutemen Division 1 NCAA program, joining several former Waterloo teammates. His debut season coincided with a turnaround for the program under head coach Greg Carvel. In 2019, UMass shattered its previous win record with 31 victories, won the Hockey East regular season title, but lost in the conference semifinals. In the Minutemen's second NCAA Tournament appearance, Trivigno was held scoreless in the first two games but tied the national semifinal against Denver. Late in that game, he elbowed Jake Durflinger in the head; no penalty was called, but the NCAA reviewed the play and suspended Trivigno for the national championship game, which UMass lost without scoring a goal. The following season, UMass finished second in Hockey East, with Trivigno taking a larger role and finishing fourth in team scoring. However, all postseason games were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delaying his chance to make amends.
