Britain's Next Top Model

Britain's Next Top Model, known as Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model between 2011 and 2013 and often shortened to BNTM, BINTM, or simply Top Model, is a reality competition series from the British-Irish television market. The show pits a group of women against each other for the title and a launch into professional modelling. Its first cycle aired on 14 September 2005 via Living TV. The programme belongs to the Top Model franchise, taking its format from the American original, America's Next Top Model.

The winner typically receives a modelling contract, a cosmetics campaign, and a fashion magazine spread that includes the front cover. Additional prizes have varied by cycle and have included a car, a holiday, cash, or an apartment, among other items. From series 7 through series 9, the show was renamed Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model to reflect the inclusion of Irish contestants. On 28 October 2013, Sky Living announced the show’s cancellation. In April 2015, the programme’s Twitter account confirmed a revival later that year on Lifetime. Due to licensing issues, the title reverted to Britain's Next Top Model, though Irish applicants remained eligible.

**Premise**

Young female contestants live together in a house for several weeks, taking part in challenges, photo shoots, and meetings with modelling industry professionals. Typically, one contestant is eliminated each week based on poor performance, until the last remaining competitor is crowned “Britain’s Next Top Model” and receives a modelling contract plus other prizes. In a BBC interview, host Elle Macpherson contrasted the show with its U.S. counterpart, describing BNTM as “uniquely British” in its sense of humour and styling, with “more hybrid backgrounds” that she said reflected the contemporary UK.

**Format**

Each series contains ten to fourteen episodes and starts with twelve to fourteen contestants. One contestant is eliminated per episode, though the judging panel may occasionally decide on a double elimination or no elimination. Series 6 featured a live finale where the public chose the winner. Fearne Cotton served as narrator for most cycles, but due to maternity leave she missed the ninth series, replaced by Dawn Porter.
