Waysted were formed in 1982 by Pete Way, former bassist of UFO, and Scottish vocalist Fin Muir. The initial lineup included Frank Noon (ex-Def Leppard) and Ronnie Kayfield. Paul Raymond joined later in 1983 after the debut album Vices was recorded. They signed with Chrysalis Records and released their debut album Vices in 1983. The band went through many lineup changes, with members leaving and rejoining, and periods of dormancy while Way pursued other projects. They split in 1987 but reformed in 2003. In 2007, they toured the UK supporting their album The Harsh Reality, after which no further new material was released. Pete Way died on 14 August 2020 from accident injuries.

The band's story was cut short in a deeply personal way: Pete Way, the founding force behind the project, died on 14 August 2020 as a result of injuries he sustained in an accident.
