Ichigo's battles with Rukia's brother during the Soul Society rescue.
Ichigo Kurosaki and Byakuya Kuchiki clash several times in Bleach's Soul Society storyline. Byakuya, captain of the Sixth Division and Rukia's adoptive brother, first comes with his lieutenant Renji Abarai to bring Rukia back and kill Ichigo.

Byakuya had sworn never to break the rules again after adopting Rukia, so he does not intervene when she is sentenced to death, even though he is torn about it.
Reader's Guide
The fights take place while Ichigo and his friends are in Soul Society to stop Rukia's execution.
In their first meeting Byakuya and Renji take Rukia, and Ichigo is spared only because Rukia begs Byakuya not to finish him. Byakuya later stops Ganju Shiba and Hanatarō Yamada, and then Renji, from rescuing her. He then fights Ichigo for the third time. After Ichigo forces his inner hollow to submit, both put their remaining power into one final attack, and the fight ends in a tie. Talking afterwards, Byakuya comes to see that Ichigo had been fighting against Soul Society's law.
