Lore & Background

Martha, played by Hayley Atwell, loses her boyfriend Ash (Domhnall Gleeson) in a car accident. While grieving she learns of a service that lets her message an artificial intelligence built to imitate him, and reluctantly tries it. Brooker drew the idea from two places: whether to delete a dead friend's number from your phone, and the thought that software could keep posting to Twitter in someone's voice.
