Point of No Return is a vegan, straight edge metalcore band from São Paulo, Brazil. The group started in 1996 as a side project of Self-Conviction. Their lyrics often address Third World struggles and animal liberation, and their music blends Earth Crisis-style metal mosh with death metal. Like the North American band Path of Resistance, Point of No Return uses three vocalists.
Their debut full-length, *Centelha* (“Sparks”), came out on CD via Liberation Records in Brazil and Catalyst Records in the United States. The band toured Europe in 2000 and Argentina in 2001. After a seven-month break and what was billed as a final show in Argentina, they returned in 2002 with a second album, *Liberdade Imposta, Liberdade Conquistada* (“Imposed Freedom, Conquered Freedom”), and toured Europe again. That album’s lyrics, entirely in Portuguese, focus on sociopolitical themes and have a more melancholic tone, with strong influences from Cro-Mags, Judge, and Napalm Death.
Point of No Return played their last show in 2006. In 2024, they released a new record, *A Linguagem da Recusa* (“The Language of Refusal”), made up of songs written between 2002 and 2024.
