Brutality Will Prevail formed in 2005 with vocalist Gareth Arnold, guitarist James Goodman, bassist Dale Williams, and drummer Adam Evans. They released the Life Is Our War EP later that year, after which Arnold and Williams departed. Ajay Jones joined as vocalist and Emlyn Lamb as bassist. The band's debut album Forgotten Soul was released in 2009, followed by Root of All Evil in 2010. In late 2011 and early 2012, they toured the UK and mainland Europe with Harm's Way and Dead End Path, including the January 2012 Outbreak Festival.
