Last updated
Born on 23 March 1988 in Edinburgh, Rose Anderson is a Scottish basketball player who suits up for UWIC Archers in the English Basketball League. She earned a spot on Great Britain's women's basketball team for the 2012 Summer Olympics, marking the country's first-ever entry in that event.
Career
Anderson attended Portobello High School in Edinburgh and played for the Scottish junior basketball team, later captaining the Great Britain under-20s team and playing for Edinburgh Kool Kats. In 2006 she moved to the United States on a scholarship to Northern Oklahoma College, then transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma in 2008. Due to college eligibility rules, she could not play for the university's basketball team in her final season and took up rowing instead.
She now plays for UWIC Archers, with whom she won the Women's Division 1 of the English Basketball League for the first time in the club's history during the 2011–12 season. Initially named to an 18-strong training squad for Great Britain, she remained in the final squad announced on 23 June. Great Britain fielded a women's basketball team for the first time at the Olympics, and Anderson became the first University of Central Oklahoma alumnus to be named to an Olympic squad.
When she played against Australia on 28 July 2012 in Great Britain's first match, she became the first Scottish player ever to appear in Olympic basketball, as the two Scottish players on the British men's team did not play until the following day.
