History
The origins of G-Power trace back to 1971 in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt, where the Grommisch family began refining BMW vehicles. In 1973 the company took over distribution of the Alpina agency in the Rhine/Main area. From 1983 the focus shifted to BMW tuning under the G-Power name, with milestones including the introduction of DTM-style rear silencers and a wedge-shaped chassis developed with Koni. G-Power started its own production of tuning products for various BMW models in 1986.
In 1995 Zoran Zorneke acquired the business operations and trademark rights to G-Power, and in 1997 the headquarters moved to new premises in Brunsbüttel featuring a Maha performance test bench. Shortly after, G-Power introduced its first compressor systems, developed on the M-GmbH S54 3.0l sports engine; the Evo supercharger for the BMW M3 E36 raised output from 210 kW (286 hp) to 294 kW (400 hp). In 2005 the company expanded with a manufacturing facility for carbon aerodynamic components, and that year brought to market an aerodynamics program for BMW series 3, 5, 6, 7 and the Z8, as well as the Silverstone Diamond light alloy wheel.
In 2007 G-Power presented the 404 kW (550 PS) G-Power G3 CSL V10 Coupé, a BMW M3 E46 Coupé with an integrated V10 engine from the BMW M5 E60, available only as a complete vehicle. The G-Power brand moved to Bavaria in early 2007, and the first project there was a bi-compressor system for the BMW V10 engine from the M5 E60 and M6 E63, using two radial compressors and about 0.8 bar boost to raise output from 370 kW (507 PS) to up to 588 kW (800 PS) in the G-POWER M6 Hurricane RR.
The G-POWER M5 Hurricane RR set a world record for the fastest sedan with a top speed of 372 km/h. In 2012 the G1 V8 Hurricane RS, based on the 1 Series M Coupe with a V8 engine and supercharger, produced 441 kW (600 PS) and a top speed of 330 km/h, with changes to chassis, brakes and aerodynamics, and was offered only as a fully manufactured vehicle.
