Atalanta merged with another Bergamo club in 1920, adopting its current name and black-and-blue colors. The club reached Serie A for the first time in 1937 and enjoyed nearly three decades in the top flight from 1940 to 1969. Under coach Gian Piero Gasperini (2017–2025), Atalanta achieved its best-ever league finishes and participated in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
