Atalanta was founded on 17 October 1907 by Eugenio Urio, Giulio and Ferruccio Amati, Alessandro Forlini, and Giovanni Roberti. The club was named after the Greek mythological athlete Atalanta. Initially wearing black and white kits, the club merged with Bergamasca in 1920, resulting in the current nerazzurri colors. Atalanta reached Serie A for the first time in 1937 and enjoyed nearly three decades in the top flight from 1940 to 1969. The club has never won the Scudetto but is known as the 'queen of the provincial clubs.'
