Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio, commonly referred to as Atalanta, is an Italian professional football club based in Bergamo, Lombardy. Founded in 1907 by students of Liceo Classico Paolo Sarpi, the club merged with another Bergamo club in 1920, adopting its current name and black-and-blue colors. Atalanta has spent 64 seasons in Serie A, 28 in Serie B, and one in Serie C, and is nicknamed the 'queen of the provincial clubs.' The club has won two major trophies: the Coppa Italia in 1963 and the Europa League in 2024.

Atalanta was founded on 17 October 1907 by Eugenio Urio, Giulio and Ferruccio Amati, Alessandro Forlini, and Giovanni Roberti, students at Liceo Classico Paolo Sarpi. The club was named after the Greek mythological athlete Atalanta. It merged with rival club Bergamasca in 1920, combining their colors into the current black and blue. Atalanta first reached Serie A in 1937 and enjoyed nearly three decades in the top flight from 1940 to 1969. The club's first European qualification came in 1963–64 for the European Cup Winners' Cup, after winning the Coppa Italia in 1963.
