Lore & Background
In front of 33,765 spectators Tomas Brolin hit the post for Parma early on. In the 20th minute Lorenzo Minotti miscued an overhead clearance and Smith volleyed past Luca Bucci with his left foot. Arsenal then sat back, kept Gianfranco Zola and Faustino Asprilla quiet and held on, while their fans sang "One-nil to the Arsenal" throughout. George Graham's side were without the suspended Ian Wright and the injured John Jensen, Martin Keown and David Hillier, so Smith played alone up front in a 4-5-1 with Paul Merson and Kevin Campbell wide.
