Background
Quarterback Kurt Warner, who had gone from a backup with the 1999 St. Louis Rams to leading the Greatest Show on Turf to a Super Bowl XXXIV win, directed an offense built around receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Sean Morey, with Adrian Wilson anchoring the secondary. Arizona was 7-3 by Week 11 and went 2-4 the rest of the way, but the division title brought the Cardinals a home playoff game for the first time since 1947. They beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 in the wild-card round on January 3, 2009, upset the Carolina Panthers 33-13 in Charlotte on January 10, and beat the Philadelphia Eagles 32-25 in the NFC Championship Game at University of Phoenix Stadium on January 18. In Super Bowl XLIII at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on February 1, 2009, they lost 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fitzgerald, Wilson, Morey, Warner and Boldin were selected to the Pro Bowl.
