Öznur Cüre
Turkish Paralympian archer, world and Paralympic champion.
Öznur Cüre Girdi (born 1 October 1997) is a Turkish Paralympic archer who competes in the women’s compound bow W2 category. She has won titles at the Paralympics, world championships, and European championships, and holds a world record.
Cüre began playing sitting volleyball during physical therapy for paralysis while staying in hospitals away from home, but did not continue with that sport. After finishing therapy, she returned to Istanbul and took up para archery in 2019 after meeting para archer Bahattin Hekimoğlu, who invited her to join the Okçuluk Vakfı Sports Club. She stands at 78 kg and competes in the W2 wheelchair class for compound bow events. Her coaches are Elanur Karakoç and Hasan Basri Hancı.
In 2020, she placed fourth in both the Compound Women Open Individual and the Compound Open Mixed Team event (with Murat Turan) at the 6th Fazza Para Archery World Ranking Tournament in Dubai. She also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics at the World Qualification Tournament in Nové Město nad Metují, Czech Republic.
The following year, at the 7th Fazza tournament in Dubai, she finished fifth in the individual event and fourth in the mixed team event with Turan. At the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics, she competed in the individual compound open and mixed team compound events, winning a silver medal in the mixed team with Bülent Korkmaz.
In 2022, she and Sevgi Yorulmaz set a world record of 1,344 points in the Compound Women Open Doubles ranking round at the World Para Archery Championships in Dubai, and went on to win the gold medal. In 2023, she became world champion in the Compound Women Open event at the championships in Plzeň, Czech Republic.
In March 2024, she won gold in the mixed team event with Abdullah Yorulmaz at the 8th Fazza tournament in Dubai. At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, she set a new world record of 704 points in the women’s individual compound open ranking round, qualified first for the elimination rounds, and claimed the gold medal by defeating Iran’s Fatemeh Hemmati. In 2025, she won gold in the doubles open event with Büşra Ün at the World Para Archery Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.
Cüre was born in the Kağıthane district of Istanbul on 1 October 1997. She has two older sisters and a younger brother.
