Heorhiy Ivanytskyy began archery in 2005 and made his international debut in 2008. After successes in junior competitions, including two medals at the World Indoor Archery Championships, he joined the senior national team. His first senior international success came in 2014 when he won the men's team competition at the World Indoor Championships in France alongside Markiyan Ivashko and Olympic champion Viktor Ruban. In 2016 he became World Champion in the individual event, and at the 2018 World Indoor Championships he placed third in the men's team event with Oleksii Hunbin and Viktor Ruban.

At the 2015 European Games in Baku, Ivanytskyy won a bronze medal in the mixed team event with Lidiia Sichenikova, defeating Finland, Russia, and Slovenia in the bronze medal match after losing to Italy. The next day he won the men's team gold with Ivashko and Ruban, beating Spain 5-4 in the final. In the individual event he reached the quarterfinals, losing to Miguel Alvariño. He also competed at the 2015 World Championships, the 2017 Summer Universiade, and the 2019 Archery World Cup, where he won a silver medal in the team competition in Berlin.

At the 2021 European Championships in Antalya, Ivanytskyy won a silver medal in the team event with Oleksii Hunbin and Ivan Kozhokar, losing to the Netherlands in the final. He participated in the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament but was not selected for the 2020 Summer Olympics. He later competed at the 2021 World Championships in Yankton. Ivanytskyy graduated from Lviv State University of Physical Culture, enjoys table tennis, and served in the National Guard of Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion.
