Plot

The story follows Ritsu Shikishima, a high school student who notices oddities in his seemingly perfect world, such as a mysterious voice from his phone and inconsistencies around him. He discovers that his reality is a virtual construct called Mobius, created by the sentient virtual idol μ to shelter people from suffering. Determined to return to the real world, Ritsu forms the Go-Home Club with eight other students. They face the Ostinato Musicians, devotees of μ who uphold the illusion, while confronting their own traumas and reasons for entering Mobius.

Anime

FuRyu announced the television anime adaptation of The Caligula Effect during a livestream presentation. The series premiered in April 2018 and ran for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series, and Discotek Media licensed it for a North American physical release.
