Plot

Otaku teenager Tamotsu Denkigai and his sister Niwaka are shopping in Akihabara when vampiric, cosplaying monsters called Bugged Ones attack. These creatures possess people by biting them and cause chaos. A mysterious girl with a baseball bat, Matome Mayonaka, rescues Tamotsu. While protecting her, Tamotsu is fatally injured. Matome, a high-level Bugged One protecting the city, revives him as a Bugged One and recruits him. They team up with Niwaka and cosplayer Arisa Ahokainen to form the group Electric Mayonnaise. They discover the only way to destroy Bugged Ones is to rip their clothes off and expose them to sunlight.

Characters

Tamotsu Denkigai is an otaku turned into a Bugged One by Matome after sacrificing his life for her. He helps form the vigilante group Electric Mayonnaise. He is intensely focused on his hobbies, especially vintage technology like 8-bit arcade games and amateur radio, and takes odd jobs to fund his otaku habits. His surname is a wordplay on Denki Gai, Akihabara's post-war nickname. He develops feelings for Matome by the anime's end. Matome Mayonaka is a hazoku, a boss-level Bugged One, who protects Akiba from her kind. She leads Electric Mayonnaise and is called Mayo by friends. She transforms Tamotsu into a Bugged One. She, Niwaka, and Arisa form the idol group Mania. She loves eating at Akiba's restaurants. Her surname comes from the Mansei Bridge. She develops a crush on Tamotsu early but does not confess until near the end. Arisa Ahokainen is a Finnish otaku who cosplays. Though human, she has superhuman strength and martial arts skill. She is the third member of Electric Mayonnaise and a member of Mania. Despite her intelligence, her eccentricity makes her seem an airhead. Her catchphrase is Moi. Niwaka Denkigai is Tamotsu's younger sister, a middle schooler and otaku who joins his adventures. She provides financial support and relays messages to their parents. She, Matome, and Arisa are in Mania. Both Niwaka and Arisa are aware early of Matome's crush on Tamotsu.
