Characters
Junichi Tachibana is the lead male protagonist and a class 2A student. He has had difficulty opening up to others since being stood up on a Christmas Eve date two years prior, and he fears heights, feeling uncomfortable in elevators. His sister Miya considers him unreliable and slightly perverted, but Junichi shows responsibility when focused and performs above average academically, especially in math, though he often oversleeps and needs Miya to wake him. Haruka Morishima is a popular final-year girl with many fans; she is fickle, insecure, and fond of cute things, particularly puppies. Her best friend is Hibiki Tsukahara, and she has a younger brother named Satoshi. Haruka is one-quarter British through her mother, whose family surname is Lovely, and she frequently mixes English phrases into her speech. Kaoru Tanamachi is one of Junichi's childhood friends and a class 2A classmate who often spends time with him and his best friend Masayoshi. She is unpredictable and may punch Junichi unexpectedly. Kaoru does household chores and works part-time at a family restaurant to support her single mother, who later dates another man. Her feelings for Junichi have been building since middle school, though he is usually oblivious. Sae Nakata is a friend and classmate of Miya's who attended an all-girls school for most of her life and is extremely shy around men. She has a soft, quiet voice and shows child-like enthusiasm for Inago Mask superheroes, while also having a severe fear of dogs. Her arc is uniquely narrated by Jouji Nakata and includes instances of breaking the fourth wall. Ai Nanasaki is a friend and classmate of Miya's and a member of the school swimming team. She has a younger brother named Ikuo, possesses a cool, calm disposition, and maintains the household because both parents work long hours. Rihoko Sakurai is another childhood friend of Junichi who, despite a large appetite for sweets, avidly reads dieting books in the school library. She is a member of the Tea Club, and her arc is told more from her perspective than Junichi's. Tsukasa Ayatsuji is also a character in the series.
