Plot

Xenoc, the heart of the universe, holds Xeno-energy, a powerful energy source that can create or destroy. For eons, this cosmic energy destroyed civilizations until the Zenterrans, the wisest and oldest species, contained it with help from Fyran mechanics. Fearing war over the energy, Zenterran Master Khadan created a contest: each alien civilization chooses a champion to race for the energy, and whoever controls the most decides the universe's fate. The Kragnan Empire, a race of crablike creatures who travel in lava spaceships and bone land vehicles, have enslaved or eaten half the universe and seek energy for their eggs. After gangster Seadrok drops his space anchor on a Kragnan ship, saving Ultrox, and also drops the N'tal champion G'rog, Ultrox joins the races as Alpheron's champion. On planet Krag, the Kragnans enter warlord Gnarl into the races. The Zenterrans create an enforcer from Xeno-energy named Gamekeeper Kytani to enforce race rules. During the first race, Jek follows Kommander Necraal, who kidnapped his uncle, until Necraal tells Jek they ate his uncle's brain. Skrash, a lone zombie native to Xenoc, detonates a mountain hoping to take other racers with it.

Characters

Ultrox, voiced by Brian Dobson, is a scientist and explorer from Alpheron. Xeno-energy destroyed his arms and legs at birth, forcing him to use robotic prosthetics. He studied Xeno-energy with help from his vehicle's AI, Vakkon, voiced by Ian James Corlett. Selected by Minister Prime Apex to compete, Ultrox agreed after persuasion from Jek, seeing an opportunity to study Xeno-energy up close. He prioritizes saving people over winning, causing trouble with his sponsors. Gnarl, voiced by Brian Drummond, is a Kragnan warlord. The Kragnan Empire has enslaved, devoured, and conquered half the universe. Gnarl loathes all non-Kragnans, cheats, destroys, and attempts to eat anything in his way. He rides the Stoneklaw, a heavily armed vehicle based on a Landkrab, which excels in combat but lacks speed. G'rog, voiced by Doron Bell, is a N'tal athlete recognized on six planets and a fan of Ultrox. His sponsoring product is G'rogade for his organic car, the Battlesynth. He resolves ties by flipping boogers, with outcomes determined by crusty or slimy side up. Much humor revolves around his fondness for snot and boogers. Jek, voiced by Danny McKinnon, is a boy genius from Fyra, a species of gifted mechanics. He and his uncle helped construct Xeno-energy control chambers. Kragnans captured them and ate his uncle's brain, but Jek escaped and was rescued by Ultrox, becoming his companion and mechanic. Jek dreams of being a racer and occasionally pilots vehicles, including his own 3X-J.

Xeno-energy

Xeno-energy is a violent energy that is the lifeblood of Xenoc. For eons it destroyed civilizations until the Zenterrans contained it. It keeps the planet's lone native inhabitant, Skrash, alive. The Zenterrans, with help from Jek's kind, built chambers with Command Matrixes to contain the energy; the equations were so complex only Zenterrans knew how to access them. In Powershift Part 2, Ultrox discovered the Xeno-energy was containing itself in Xeno-boosters due to active Command Matrix equations, and he said it is not alive but tries to be. Xeno-boosters are small disc-shaped scanners containing a small amount of Xeno-energy that turbo-charges anything for ten seconds; unused ones are retrieved after races. Xenocells are capsules containing stable Xeno-energy given to race winners, but they are difficult to use, so a Zenterran technician helps the winning planet. In one case, a technician gave Kreff shapeshifting abilities, after which Kreff devoured his brain and returned to Khadan disguised as the technician.
