Production
After working on the extended episode "The Sign," Bluey creator Joe Brumm told reporters he believed a feature-length project was the logical progression. Before that episode debuted in April 2024, executive producer Daley Pearson had already voiced interest in a film adaptation. In December 2024, BBC Studios and Disney announced a Bluey film, initially called Bluey: The Movie, was underway. Brumm, who had been the series' director, writer, and showrunner, was set to write and direct, with Richard Jeffery—who directed the episodes "Sleepytime" and "The Sign"—as co-director. The regular series' voice cast and crew, including the anonymous child actors, are all returning, and Joff Bush is back as composer. Amber Naismith is producing, with animation by Cosmic Dino Studio. By March 2026, the title had become The Bluey Movie, confirmed when a teaser trailer dropped at the D23 Expo that August. The film is a joint effort among Disney, BBC Studios, and Ludo Studio. Disney manages global theatrical and streaming rights outside Australia, BBC Studios handles financing and licensing, and Ludo Studio produces. Tax incentives from the Australian federal government and the Queensland state government provide financial backing.
