Crewmate
Most of the crew: do the tasks, find the Impostors, survive the vote.
Crewmates are the majority role in Among Us, Innersloth's multiplayer game for four to fifteen players. Each round, up to three players are secretly picked as Impostors and everyone else plays as a Crewmate. Crewmates win either by finishing all of their assigned tasks or by ejecting every Impostor.
Lore & Background
At the start of a game, each Crewmate receives tasks spread around the map: minigames, small puzzles and simple toggles, mostly maintenance work on vital systems such as fixing wires or downloading data. Because Impostors look identical to Crewmates and can only pretend to do tasks, Crewmates rely on social deduction to work out who is lying.
Reader's Guide
Visual tasks, such as scanning yourself in the Skeld's medbay, play an animation that nearby players can see, so a Crewmate can use them to prove they are not an Impostor. Surveillance tools differ per map: cameras on The Skeld, a door log in MIRA HQ and a vitals display on Polus. Since the November 2021 update a Crewmate may also be an Engineer, who can use vents to a limited extent, or a Scientist, who can check vitals from anywhere; later updates added the Noisemaker, Tracker, Detective and Judge roles.
When a body is found or someone presses the Emergency Meeting button, Crewmates gather to talk through what they saw, in the text chat or over voice apps such as Discord, and then vote. A Crewmate who is killed or ejected becomes a ghost and can keep doing tasks, unseen by the living.
Did You Know?
- The first Crewmate to die in a round can become a Guardian Angel, a ghost able to protect living players from being killed for a short time.
- In the Hide and Seek mode added in December 2022, Crewmates can finish tasks to run down the timer and hide in vents for a short time.
